Photographing Motherhood
Motherhood is easily the most amazing, challenging, and consuming role I’ve ever had. I talk about it and write about it. A lot. Because it is the most amazing, challenging, and consuming role I’ve ever had. And now, I’m photographing it.
For myself. And for you.
It isn’t always easy to get in front of the camera. As a woman, you are conditioned to worry about how you look…your weight, your clothes, your hair, everything. I’m here to tell you: none of this matters. Your children are not judging you the way you judge yourself. You are their protector, nurturer, supporter, and encourager. You are a light in this crazy world for them to follow. They love you from the deepest part of their hearts, and you deserve to see yourself as they see you.
You don’t need to be glamorous to be beautiful
Now, I’ll be the first to agree that motherhood isn’t exactly…glamorous. It is rarely (never) the baby-wearing, latte-sipping, trendy-accessory fashion show that social media likes to make us believe it is. Nope. In fact, as I type this, my shirt is smeared with baby snot and my right sock has a hole in it.
Raising children, big and small, tends to be a bit of a whirlwind. Messes, running around, meeting demands. It's easy to forget that what we are doing as mothers is as important a job as running a billion dollar company. It's also easy to lose sight of the beautiful woman inside of every mother I know. She's still there and she deserves to be seen.
You see, I’m also a big hearted romantic. I know that even on the days when my mom bun is a mile high, there are moments that feel like magic. And I know that every mother, fashionista or not, looks her best when she is surrounded by love.
I would be honored to capture the love between you and your children. It does not matter if you have one child or many. If your children are babies or grown. Or if you want to wear a flowing white gown or your favorite jeans. I want you to see yourself as I see you: a loving mother and a gift to her children. If this sounds like something you're interested in, be sure to see the special announcement at the bottom of this post.
Portrait of a Mother
"Through the blur, I wondered if I was alone or if other parents felt the same way I did - that everything involving our children was painful in some way. The emotions, whether they were joy, sorrow, love, or pride, were so deep and sharp that in the end they left you raw, exposed, and yes, in pain. The human heart was not designed to beat outside the body and yet, each child represented just that - a parent's heart bared, beating forever outside its chest." ~ Debra Ginsberg
